Common Name: Razor Shell
Distribution: Common throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Found around the tropical coastline of Australia from Gulf St Vincent in South Australia to southern New South Wales in the east.
Ecological Notes: Frequents sheltered sandy, muddy bottoms to 10 m depth.
Additional Notes: Fan shaped, the tip is embedded in the substrate. It sticks upright from the bottom and is known by the common name Razor Shell because of the danger it poses to barefooted beachcombers in shallow waters. Grows to 500 mm length.
