Scorpaenopsis eschmeyeri
(Randall and Greenfield, 2004)

Distribution: Rare in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed in the southwestern Pacific region: New Caledonia and Fiji. In Australia recorded from the northern Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, North Stradbroke Island and North West Solitary Island in New South Wales.

Ecological Notes: A benthic species frequenting coral and rocky reef areas. Depth 1 – 24 m.

Additional Notes: Variable colouration makes identification in the field difficult. Grows to around 12 cm. First record in the Solitary Islands Marine Park, identification thanks to Dr Hiroyuki Motomura, Australian Museum Research Associate, from Kagoshima University Museum, Japan.
