Common Name: Largemouth Goby

Distribution: Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Known from the Western Pacific region. In Australia recorded from southern Queensland, south through New South Wales and eastern Victoria, and including north east Tasmania.

Ecological Notes: Frequents harbours, estuaries and lower reaches of freshwater streams, usually on rocky reefs or pylons in small aggregations.

Additional Notes: Pale brown with dark brown chequered pattern to the rear of the body, mature males have dark blotch on first dorsal fin and enlarged mouth. A small species that lives amongst algae and rubble on the substrate. May sometimes be seen feeding in the water column just above the bottom.  Grows to around 5 cm.
