Common Name: Southern Grubfish

Distribution: Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the western Central Pacific region: Queensland, Australia to Tonga. In Australia recorded from the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, south to central  New South Wales, and including Lord Howe Island.

Ecological Notes: Shallow clearwater coastal bays, estuaries and shallow reef. Depth to 82 m.

Additional Notes: Dark band from eye to lower jaw, first dorsal fin with large black spot at base and eight or nine squarish blotches under the dorsal fin. Grows to 10 cm.
