Calpurnus verrucosus
(Linnaeus,1758)

Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park where most records are from the inshore islands. Found throughout the Indo-West Pacific region. In Australia, recorded from the east coast of Australia along the Great Barrier Reef south to northern New South Wales.

Ecological Notes: Usually found in the open on Sarcophyton sp. soft corals upon which it feeds. May be locally common on occasion.

Additional Notes: This species is characterised by a white shell with “toenail” like depressions at each end. The mantle is covered with fine black/brown dots. Grows to 40 mm.
