SURG, in conjunction with the Southern Cross University National Marine Science Centre, will be holding the third annual Coffs Coast Sea Slug census in 2021. The event will start with introductory talks, COVID restrictions permitting, either at the NMSC downstairs auditorium or by ZOOM, on Thursday 28th January. The census will start next day, Friday 29th January and run through until midnight on Sunday, January 31st. All citizen scientists are invited to take part and participants do not need to be members of SURG for this event. For those that have not taken part before, the census is designed to photographically record every sea slug seen during the 3 day period, with three prizes given to the person or team with the most number of species, the most interesting species found and the best photo. The area of coast open for the census includes the shoreline and offshore waters from Brooms Head in the north to Sawtell in the south. Scuba divers, snorkellers and beachcombers are welcome to enter, many of our most spectacular species are to be found in the extensive areas of rocky shores and rock platforms along this section of coast.
