Common Name: Red-footed Booby
Distribution: Found widely in the tropics of the world’s oceans. In Australia the Red-footed Booby has been recorded from coastal and offshore waters adjacent to northern Australia, the Coral Sea and south to VIC.
Ecological Notes: When not breeding it spends most of the time at sea, and is therefore rarely seen away from breeding colonies. It primarily eats small fish or squid which gather in schools near the ocean surface, sometimes attracting the attention of numerous boobies.
Additional Notes: A powerful and agile flier, however, it is clumsy in takeoffs and landings.
