Common Name: Pacific Golden Plover

Distribution: This species breeding range is the Arctic tundra from northernmost Asia into western Alaska. The species is migratory and winters in south Asia and Australasia. 

Ecological Notes: Occupies coastal shorelines, including tidal reefs, mudflats, estuaries, salt marshes and sewerage ponds. It feeds along intertidal areas and swamp margins for small insects, shellfish, crabs, worms and small fish.

Additional Notes: Typically observed singly or in small groups. It will gather with enormous numbers of other waders at the end of the southern hemisphere summer in preparation to depart Australia.
