Common Name: Scarlet Honeyeater

Distribution: The Scarlet Honeyeater is distributed along the east coast of Australia, from around Cooktown in north Queensland to Gippsland in Victoria, but is less common south of Sydney.

Ecological Notes: It is arboreal, frequenting the upper canopy of trees in open forests and woodlands and occasionally rainforests. It feeds on the nectar of flowering plants and occasionally insects.

Additional Notes: One of Australia’s smallest honeyeaters, it is usually seen singly, in pairs and small flocks occasionally. The male is easily recognisable by the bright red colour on its head, back and breast.
