Common Name: Lesser Frigatebird
Distribution: Occurs over tropical and subtropical waters across the Indian and Pacific Oceans, as well as off the Atlantic coast of Brazil. Rarely seen in offshore New South Wales waters.
Ecological Notes: Prey upon fish taken in flight from the ocean’s surface (often flying fish), and sometimes indulge in kleptoparasitism, harassing other birds to force them to regurgitate their food.
Additional Notes: This species rarely swims, has difficulty walking, but can manage to scramble around the trees and shrubs in which it nests.
