Achaeus japonicus
(De Haan, 1839)

Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Western Pacific, Indonesia and Japan. In Australia members of the genus are known from all states excepting South Australia.

Ecological Notes: Often found in association with giant anemones, or on rubble substrate in algae.

Additional Notes: As with other decorator crabs, this species has the ability to attach particles for camouflage.
