Aulactinia veratra
(Drayton in Dana, 1846)

Common Name: Snakelock Anemone

Distribution:  Common throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Endemic to Australia and New Zealand it is found from Rottnest Island in Western Australia to southern Queensland and including around Tasmania.

Ecological Notes:  Found in water filled crevices in rocky areas from low tide level to 3 m depth.

Additional Notes:  Green tentacles surround a brown or green trunk, sometimes with a red mouth. Numerous narrow, smooth tentacles up to 40 mm long. Grows to 70 mm column width.
