SOCIAL MEETING: GUEST SPEAKER SHANE WHITE WILL TALK ABOUT BUCCA BUCCA CREEK WATER QUALITY AND THE POTENTIAL IMPACTS OF INTENSIVE PLANT AGRICULTURE

Last year Shane gave a very interesting presentation to members and guests on his research into the impact of intensive farming on our local environment. This time, Shane will be discussing the results of his Honours research which involved analysis of water samples taken at various places along Bucca Bucca Creek during 2017. Overall, the analysis revealed a clear link between blueberry farming and nitrogen runoff in headwater streams. Shane’s overall recommendation is “. . . site-specific management approaches to reduce farm nitrogen runoff, and the assessment of potential impacts of blueberry nitrogen runoff to downstream habitats such as estuaries and the Solitary Islands Marine Park.”

Following Shane’s talk coffee and tea will be served and the opportunity to chat with other members about these important results.

Bring your own cup and also some small change for the raffle which precedes the talk.
