SOLITARY ISLANDS
UNDERWATER
RESEARCH GROUP, INC.

The 8th sea slug census held on the Coffs Harbour coastline took place from the 16th to the 25th of January, 2026.

A brief summary of the results reveal that 848 observations were made by 26 observers, and from those observations there were 126 discrete species found. Most of the search effort took place in the rocky pools along our coastline, and was especially productive in the Low Reef/Witches area of Sandy Beach. The inclement weather for most of the period meant offshore diving was limited, but a number of SURG members were able to dive at South and North Solitary on several occasions. A total of 14 species were recorded in the census for the first time this year and one, Ardeadoris scottjohnsoni, pictured below and photographed by Craig Lewis, was the first recording in Australian waters.
