Common Name: Stout Longtom
Distribution: Common throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-West Pacific: endemic to Australia where it is found from Shark Bay in Western Australia, across the tropical north, south through Queensland and New South Wales to the Victorian border.
Ecological Notes: Frequents surface waters of coastal coral and rocky reefs and estuaries.
Additional Notes: Silvery sides, greenish above, with truncated caudal fin with centre slightly emarginated in adults. Snout and fins dusky. Often solitary or in small groups. Inhabits the surface layers where it feeds on small fishes. Grows to 80 cm.
