Distribution: Common throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed from East Africa and the Red Sea, to Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines. In Australia recorded from Esperance on the West Coast, across the tropical north, throughout the Great Barrier Reef, south to Lord Howe Island.
Ecological Notes: Found on shallow and deep water reefs, depths to at least 20m.
Additional Notes: Colonies, initially cup shaped are very variable in shape, spreading into broad upright to horizontal fronds, sometimes irregularly contorted. The colony overall may be massive, columnar, encrusting, cup shaped or leaf like. The corallites may be immersed or long and tubular, the calices from 1.5 to 2.5mm, see second and fourth photographs for detail. Colonies may be greenish-brown, yellowish to grey.
