Common Name: White Ibis
Distribution: Ranges across eastern, northern and south-western mainland Australia.
Ecological Notes: Inhabits freshwater wetlands, swamps and grasslands. It also frequents mangrove areas and mudflats in estuarine areas. White Ibis prey upon aquatic invertebrates, insects, molluscs such as mussels, fish and snakes in its natural habitat. It frequently scavenges in land-fill sites and human recreation areas.
Additional Notes: The species obtains its food by digging with its long bill. Mussels are opened by hammering them on a hard surface to reveal the soft body inside.
