Distribution: Rare within the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed from East Africa, tropical Indo-Pacific to Hawaii, northern New Zealand. In Australia from northern Queensland to at least to Port Stephens in New South Wales on the east coast.
Ecological Notes: Frequents reef slopes. Known to feed on the arborescent, (plant like), blue bryozoan, Bugula dentata. Depth to at least 20 m.
Additional Notes: Individuals may display colour variations, usually base colour black with blue markings but may be green in cooler waters of northern New Zealand and southern New South Wales. Grows to 100 mm.
