Common Name: Giant Mud Crab

Distribution: Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Found around the northern coastline of Australia from Exmouth in the west to southern New South Wales and eastern Victoria.

Ecological Notes: Found in most estuaries where there are mangroves. Burrows into the soft sand and mud.

Additional Notes: Colour may be deep green or brown, males develop larger claws and have narrower abdomens than the females. Major recreational and commercial fishery exists in the Northern Territory and eastern states of Australia. Grows to 200 mm across the carapace.
