Common Name: Cheekspot Scorpionfish

Distribution: Common throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific region. In Australia it is known from around Geraldton north to Exmouth on the central coast of Western Australia, from southern Queensland south to the southern coast of New South Wales, and including Lord Howe Island.

Ecological Notes: Frequents coral and rocky reef, boulder areas, sometimes in caves, often on the roofs or in small crevices. Depth 1 – 40 m.

Additional Notes: Usually reddish colouration, dark blotch on lower corner of operculum and fins with small red dashes. Often overlooked due to its small size and habit of frequenting small caves, crevices and overhangs, often upside down. Grows to 11 cm.
