Schuettea scalaripinnis
(Steindachner, 1866)

Common Name: Eastern Pomfred

Distribution: Abundant throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Known only from southeastern Australia, ranging from southern Queensland to southern New South Wales.

Ecological Notes: Frequent coastal bays, protected reefs, large estuaries and rocky drop offs. Often in small to very large schools. Depth 10 – 30 m.

Additional Notes: Body silver with yellow back, dorsal, caudal and anal fins. Black stripe vertical from dorsal surface forward of dorsal fin to pectoral fin base. Relatively large eyes. Feed on zooplankton, algae and other floating organisms in the water column. Grows to 20 cm.
