Common Name: Australian Bonito

Distribution: Abundant in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the south western Pacific Ocean: southestern Australia, Norfolk Island and New Zealand. In Australia recorded from central Queensland south to the Victorian border. 

Ecological Notes: Frequents reefs and the shallower waters of the continental shelf. 

Additional Notes: Torpedo shaped body, distinct stripes on upper body fading in lower half. Sometimes schools in substantial numbers close to shore. Sought after as a bait and game fish. Grows to 180 cm, usually around 45 cm.
