Common Name: Australian Triton
Distribution: Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Recorded from New Zealand and South Africa. In Australia recorded from Tin Can Bay in Queensland around the southern coastline to Abrolhos Islands in Western Australia, including Tasmania.
Ecological Notes: Found around rocky coasts, depth range from intertidal to at least 350 m.
Additional Notes: Shell heavy with a high spire, uniformly dark brown with low ridges around the whorls and a relatively wide aperture. Interior and columella white, shell is covered with a thick velvety periostracum when alive. Grows to 130 mm, intertidal specimens commonly 80 mm in length.
