Pteraeolidia ianthina
(Angas, 1864)

Distribution: Found throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park sometimes in large numbers. Found in the tropical and subtropical Indo-West Pacific where it is common.

Ecological Notes: Commonly found on walls either in open or on hydroids, usually in shallow water. 

Additional Notes: Colour varies from pale blue to violet, and to shades of green or brown. Small juveniles are white in colour and without symbiotic zooxanthellae. Known to feed on hydroids although zooxanthellae provide most of the nutritional requirements of adults. Extremely variable in size but can reach up to 150 mm in length.
