Common Name: Long Green Wrasse
Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Known from the western Pacific region: Japan and New Zealand, also from the Abrolhos Islands to Dampier Archipelago in Western Australia and from northern New South Wales south to Montague Island on the Australian east coast, and including Lord Howe Island.
Ecological Notes: Frequent areas of kelp and weed, depth 5 – 50 m, mostly shallow.
Additional Notes: Male with bright blue and green pectoral fin base, females similar to female Candy Wrasse, Pseudojuloides cerasinus, uniformly pink/green and identification best confirmed by presence of males. Secretive, usually in small to large aggregations. Female picture above, male below. Grows to 14 cm.
