Common Name: Pinstripe Wrasse

Distribution: Rare in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific region, from the Red Sea to South Africa, the Hawaiian and the Tuamoto Islands, north to the Izu Islands of Japan. In Australia recorded from the islands and reefs of the North West Shelf in Western Australia, the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef of Queensland, south to around Gladstone.

Ecological Notes: Secretive among patches of rubble and corals of seaward reef slopes. Depth from 6 to at least 40 m. 

Additional Notes: Reddish colour, distinctive white stripe on lower jaw, fine pinstripe pattern on sides. Solitary, feeding on small benthic invertebrates. Grows to 9 cm.
