Distribution: Relatively common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific region including Hawaii. In Australia recorded from the east coast, Torres Strait to southern New South Wales.

Ecological Notes: Frequents sheltered and moderately exposed reef, and broken, rubble substrates, often seen with detritus attached. Depth to 100 m.

Additional Notes: Generally white in colour with purple tips on the primary spines and with fragments of shell or other detritus attached. Similar Pseudoboletia maculata has dark blotching and lacks the purple tips to the spines. Test is shaped like a flattened egg and is slightly wider in the lower section than the upper section. Grows to a test width of around 84 mm, spines to 15 mm.
