Pocillopora sp.
(Lamarck, 1816)

Distribution: Abundant in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indian and Pacific Oceans from South Africa north to the Red Sea and Japan, south to Lord Howe Island. In Australia recorded around the northern half of the continent from Rottnest Island in Western Australia south to Sydney on the east coast.

Ecological Notes: Frequent upper exposed reef slopes, deep water and lagoons. 

Additional Notes: The genus has five species some of which are common locally. On exposed sites the growth forms tend to be relatively stunted while those from deeper, more protected water, the branches may be thinner and the growth form more open. They are hardy and widespread, colour may vary from cream through brown, pink, green or blue.
