Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Recorded from Hawaii and Komodo, probable distribution through the tropical Indo-Pacific region. Most records in Australia from Queensland and northern New South Wales.
Ecological Notes: Usually found on softer substrates, sand and mud. Depth range from 1 m to at least 15 m.
Additional Notes: This species is carnivorous and has been observed devouring bubble shells (Haminoeids) and small sea hares. Also feeds on polychaete worms. Distinguished from similar and related Chelidonura varians by the lack of long pointed posterior tails present in the Chelidonura. Specimen pictured about 20 mm in length, grow to 50 mm.
