Common Name: Yelloweye Leatherjacket

Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. An antitropical species distributed throughout the Western Pacific: including the east coast of Australia, Lord Howe Island, New Caledonia, and the Marshall Islands. Recently recorded from Tonga. In Australia recorded from the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef in Queensland south to Sydney in New South Wales and including Lord Howe Island.

Ecological Notes: Frequents rocky and coral reefs to depth of about 15 m.

Additional Notes: Dark brown with orange eye and yellow colouration on caudal fin. Pervagor janthinosoma similar but distinguished by lack of yellow eye and has obvious blue/black blotch on gill opening. Small species often sliding sideways into crevices when approached. Grows to 16 cm.
