Pentapodus aureofasciatus
(Russell, 2001)

Common Name: Yellowstripe Threadfin Bream

Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Western Pacific region: the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Tonga. In Australia recorded from the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef in Queensland south to central New South Wales.

Ecological Notes: Frequent offshore deeper reefs and coastal lagoons, in areas of open rubble, sand or mud. Depth 5 – 35 m.

Additional Notes: Adult silver with blue, yellow and black stripes, the lowermost black stripe through the eye and ending at the tail base. Juvenile, pictured here, brightly coloured. Feed on small invertebrates from sand or rubble. Grows to about 20 cms.
