Pempheris oualensis

Common Name: Oualan Bullseye

Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific region: from the Red Sea to the Line Islands, Marquesan and Ducie Islands, north to the Ryuku Islands, south to Lord Howe and Rapa Islands. In Australia recorded from South Australia north to north Western Australia, from the Coral Sea and the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland to northern New South Wales, including Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands.

Ecological Notes: Frequents clear shallow lagoon and seaward reefs, especially along the reef margin, often forming aggregations in caves by day. Depth to 36 m.

Additional Notes: Silverish body with dark blotch on pectoral fin base, dark tip on dorsal fin and dark edging to outer rays of the caudal fin. Active feeders on benthic and planktonic crustaceans,other small invertebrates and small fishes, mostly at night. Grow to 22 cm.
