Common Name: Girdled Scalyfin
Distribution: Abundant in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed in the Western Pacific region: from southern Queensland to Montague Island in southern New South Wales.
Ecological Notes: Frequent rocky inshore reefs and around offshore islands, usually in exposed areas and surge zones. Depth 1 – 30 m.
Additional Notes: Grey body with vertical white stripe through midsection. Juveniles markedly different being gold coloured with vivid blue lines, and distinguished from other juvenile damsels by the pale broad white vertical stripe through the midsection, see lower photograph. Feed on zooplankton in midwater. Grow to about 18 cm.
