Common Name: Banded Scalyfin

Distribution: Abundant in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Western Central Pacific region: South Eastern Australia to New Caledonia and northern New Zealand. In Australia recorded from south eastern Queensland to central New South Wales, and including Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands.

Ecological Notes: Frequents coastal and semi-protected offshore reefs and lagoons. Depth range 1 – 40 m.

Additional Notes: Dark brown to black with yellowish forebody, banding on juveniles fades with age. Aggressively territorial to other fish, and at times, divers. Bright yellow colour form, middle photograph, immature adult in bottom photograph. Grows to 21 cm.
