Parapercis ramsayi
(Steindachner, 1883)

Common Name: Spotted Grubfish

Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Eastern Indian Ocean: in southern Australian waters from Western Australia through to northern New South Wales but not in Tasmania.

Ecological Notes: Frequents sand or rubble patches in or near reef. Depth 5 – 80 m.

Additional Notes: Fawn above with white belly, large white edged black spot on upper part of tail base, row of dark blotches evenly spaced on lower belly. May change colour according to substrate, light coloured on a sandy bottom, more dark in a muddy substrate. Feed on benthic crustaceans and other invertebrates. Grows to 20 cm.
