Common Name: Coral Cardinalfish
Distribution: Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific region: from East Africa to Tonga, north to Taiwan, south to New South Wales. In Australia recorded from the Exmouth region of Western Australia, across the tropical north of the continent, the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef in Queensland south to central New South Wales.
Ecological Notes: Frequents clear coastal and outer reefs, juveniles in harbours. Depth 1 – 30 m, usually shallower to 14 m.
Additional Notes: Gold with silver stripes on upper body. Usually in pairs or small aggregations, feeds on benthic invertebrates, small fish and zooplankton. Grows to 6 cm.
