Probably rare in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Known from the Great Barrier Reef south as far as Sydney. Also recorded from the Philippines and New Guinea.
Found in shallower water on reef to a depth of 20 m. Feeds on sponges.
This species is characterised by its brilliant red margins and white body. The depth of colour, frilliness and width of margin is variable. Lays a yellow egg ribbon. Grows to 30 mm.
