Common Name: Scalyfin Threefin
Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Recorded from the Indo-West Pacific region: Red Sea to Fiji, north to the Izu Islands, south to southwest and southeast Australia and New Caledonia. Recently recorded from Tonga. In Australia recorded from Perth in Western Australia north to the North West Shelf, in Queensland from Torres Strait south to northern New South Wales.
Ecological Notes: Frequents rock and coral reef, in clear lagoons and seaward reefs. Depth 25 m, usually 2 – 7 m.
Additional Notes: Overall greyish brown with five white saddles on upper sides extending onto fins and with broad dark eyebar. Eggs are attached to the nesting site on the substrate by sticky threads. Larvae are planktonic. Grows to 7 cm.
