Common Name: Yellowtail Demoiselle

Distribution: Rare in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-West Pacific region: East Africa to the Indo-Malayan Archipelago and Vanuatu, north to Taiwan, south to northern Australia, New Guinea, Solomon Islands. In Australia recorded from Shark Bay in Western Australia, through to the Gulf of Carpentaria, the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, south to northern New South Wales.

Ecological Notes: Frequents outer reef slopes, deeper channels and ledges. Usually forms small groups. Depth to 12 m.

Additional Notes: Dark blue-grey to brown body with yellow tail and yellow rearmost section of dorsal fin. Distinct pairing during breeding. Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate where they are guarded and aerated by the male. Usually in small groups to large schools. Grows to 75 mm.
