Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Widespread throughout the tropical Indo-West Pacific. In Australia recorded from the northern part of Western Australia, the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland south at least to Port Stephens in New South Wales.

Ecological Notes: Found on gravel and boulder areas, reef edges, often in pairs. Feeds on ascidians, including the Purple Stalked Ascidian, Clavelina meridionalis. Frequency of sightings depends largely upon availability of food source.

Additional Notes: Creamish white body with broad chocolate brown longitudinal streaks. There are large creamy patches on the head between the rhinophores, around the gill pocket and on the tail. The raised orange gills are located in the centre of the elongated body and the foot has a bluish purple border. Often seen with the body raised as if “looking” forward. Grows to 80 mm.
