Common Name: Grey Morwong

Distribution: Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Southwest Pacific, Australia, New Zealand and the Kermadec Islands. Ranges from southern Queensland, throughout Victoria and Tasmania, across the Great Australian Bight to southern Western Australia.

Ecological Notes: Frequents sand and rocky reef to the edge of the continental shelf. Depth to 200 m.

Additional Notes: Blue-grey body colour with extended lower rays of pectoral fin, dorsal, anal and tail fin with blue tinge. Feed on small worms, algae and invertebrates filtered from sand and rubble. Solitary or small groups, may form large schools in deep water where it is commercially trawled. Grows to 81 cm.
