Nelusetta ayraud
(Quoy and Gaimard, 1824)

Common Name: Ocean Jacket

Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Endemic to Australia, known from southern Queensland around the southern half of the continent, excepting southern Tasmania. Also known from northern New Zealand.

Ecological Notes: Adults frequent continental shelf and slopes, juveniles inshore over seagrass, sand and rocky reef. Depth to 360 m.

Additional Notes: Juveniles with distinct brown stripes, adults plain brown-yellow to reddish-brown. Juvenile pictured here. Feed on salps, gastropod molluscs, crustaceans and fish. Grows to 1 m.
