Common Name: Southern Eagle Ray

Distribution: Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the eastern Indian Ocean and southern Australia, possibly also New Zealand. In Australia recorded from Shark Bay in Western Australia, around the south of the continent north to far northern New South Wales, including around Tasmania. 

Ecological Notes: Frequents areas of sand and reef flats from the shallows to a depth of at least 85 m.

Additional Notes: Recognised by the blunt snout, disc wider than it is long and with pointed tips. Colour variable from grey to yellowish brown, sometimes with bluish spots or bars. Grows to 1.2 m wide, length to around 2.4 m.
