Common Name: Fiveline Snapper

Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific region: from Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman to Fiji, north to southern Japan. In Australia recorded from Geraldton in Western Australia, across the tropical north to the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, south to northern New South Wales.

Ecological Notes: Frequents sheltered lagoons and exposed outer slopes on coral reef. Juveniles solitary and occur in shallow protected bays and estuaries with algae and rubble substrate. Depth to 40 m.

Additional Notes: Yellow body with five blue stripes, the lowest below the pectoral fin base and dark blotch often on upper rear back below mid dorsal fin. Similar Lutjanus kasmira has four blue stripes, the lowest above the pectoral fin base. Feeds on fishes and crustaceans. Grows to 38 cms.
