Common Name: Hussar
Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the western Pacific region: restricted to the east coast of Australia and New Caledonia. In Australia recorded from the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland south to Sydney.
Ecological Notes: Adults frequent coral reefs sometimes in large aggregations. Juveniles known to inhabit estuary and mangrove or sea grass areas. Depth to 20 m.
Additional Notes: Prominent golden brown stripe running laterally from the rear of the operculum to the caudal peduncle, pinkish above, white belly. Feeds on benthic invertebrates. Grows to 50 cm.
