Leptoclinides madara
(Tokioka, 1953)

Distribution: Relatively common throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Pacific Ocean. Members of this Genus are found in waters in all States of Australia.

Ecological Notes: An encrusting species found on rocky and ascidian covered reef. Specimen pictured at a depth of 10 m.

Additional Notes: A relatively thin encrusting compound ascidian with small zooids and communal exhalent siphons which are slightly raised above the surrounding tissue. Often brightly coloured, they are fixed to the substrate by their whole basal surface. Specimen pictured around 20 cm across.
