Distribution: Uncommon to rare in the Solitary Island Marine Park. Widespread from South Africa, Tanzania and the Indo-West Pacific generally. In Australia found from about Sydney across the tropical north to Esperance in Western Australia.
Ecological Notes: Found on rocky and coral reef. Feeds on sponges and often associated with the bright blue sponge, Haliclona sp, Euplacella sp. and Xestospongia. sp. Depth to at least 20 m.
Additional Notes: White body with small black dots arranged in black rings, black gills and rhinophores. Egg mass is white spiral ribbon shape. The body may appear blurry due to the presence of dense compound papillae. Grows to 50 mm in length.
