Common Name: Skeleton Murex
Distribution: Rare in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Found throughout the Indo-Pacific but considered uncommon. In Australia recorded from the Kimberley region of Western Australia and from central Queensland south to northern New South Wales.
Ecological Notes: Frequents rocky and coral reef, depth to at least 10 m.
Additional Notes: Often difficult to recognise due to relatively small size, growth shape and the fact the dorsal surface will be covered in algal and other growth. Underside white with reddish-brown operculum. Feeds on tube worms and boring bi-valves. Grows to 55 mm.
