Distribution: Common throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-West Pacific, Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean: Sub Antarctic Region, East South America. In Australia found in coastal regions of all states and Lord Howe Island.
Ecological Notes: Found on soft substrates, rocky reef, man made structures and ships hulls. Depth to 100 m.
Additional Notes: A relatively large solitary ascidian recognised by the red and white stripes on the inside of the inhalent and exhalent siphons. Often packed tightly together on reef surfaces and covered with sessile organisms with only the siphons exposed. The exhalent siphon tends upward from the body, the inhalent siphon usually directed sideways or downwards. Grows to around 20 cm.
