Common Name: Eastern Striped Grunter

Distribution: Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Western Pacific region: from the Taiwan Strait, eastern Australia and Papua New Guinea. In Australia recorded from locations on the north western coast of Western Australia, the Gulf of Carpentaria, the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland south to Mallacoota in Victoria.

Ecological Notes: Frequents bays, estuaries and coastal reefs, especially areas of seagrass, where it feeds on crustaceans.

Additional Notes: Brownish colouration in estuaries, silver grey in coastal bays, with six brown stripes. Often caught as by-catch in estuarine prawn industry. Previously known as Pelates sexlineatus. Grows to 15 cm.
